“Scènes et Séjours” was the name of my French textbook in high school. Learning a language was a gateway to a lifetime love of travel and discovery, but the hunger for adventure was inborn. The exact translation of “séjour” is difficult, but it usually refers to a brief stay somewhere, as opposed to a lengthy journey. “Sojourn” is a little-used word that we could revive as a cognate.
Today, I wend my way through Detroit and the world, sampling food, drink and most importantly, sharing those with exceptional people. I cook, I write, I play music, I care for a canine companion, I run a business, and sometimes I even clean my bathroom. I do my utmost to suss out the love, truth and beauty around me whether I’m home or away.
